Why Wi-Fi via QR code?

Everyone knows the situation: a guest arrives, asks for the Wi-Fi, and you dictate "M5jk-Grosshans-2024-Internet" letter by letter. With a Wi-Fi QR code that never happens again:

Your guest Wi-Fi QR in 30 seconds

  1. Enter Wi-Fi name (SSID): Exactly as it appears on the router (capitalization matters).
  2. Enter password: Exactly as in the router. It is not displayed — only encoded in the QR.
  3. Choose encryption: WPA/WPA2/WPA3 (standard), WEP (old) or "No password" (open network).
  4. "Hidden Wi-Fi": Enable if your SSID broadcast is disabled.
  5. Generate QR & print: For tables: 5×5 cm. For wall/entrance: 10×10 cm.

Where do I place the Wi-Fi QR code?

Pro tip: Create a separate guest network in your router (FRITZ!Box, Speedport, etc. have this built in) and only make a QR for that one. Your main Wi-Fi stays private.

Frequently asked questions

Which devices can read Wi-Fi QR codes?

iPhones from iOS 11 (2017), Android devices from Android 10 (2019). For older devices: scan the QR → the password is shown, enter manually into Wi-Fi.

Which encryption should I choose?

WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for modern routers (95% of cases). WEP only for very old routers. "No password" for open hotspots.

Does this work with a hidden SSID?

Yes — enable the "Hidden Wi-Fi" option. The SSID name is then encoded explicitly, even when it isn't broadcast.

Is my password sent to a server?

No. On easyfreeqr.com everything is created in your browser. Your password never leaves your device — not even during QR generation.
